MEV Units and Why You Need One
What is MEV?
A mechanical extract ventilation (MEV) system provides continuous ventilation. The system will draw moisture-laden air from multiple wet rooms within a property, providing simultaneous, low level extraction from kitchens, bathrooms, shower rooms, utility rooms and toilets to a central extract fan typically located in a loft or hallway cupboard via a system of ductwork and grilles to control humidity levels. The extracted air from the property is then normally discharged to the outside via a single duct and grill/cowl.
Decentralised MEV units are also available when a centralised system is not suitable or possible. The decentralised MEV system consists of a continuous running extract fan which is perfect for single applications such as bathrooms, kitchens or utility rooms.
An MEV system will work continuously, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week making low noise levels and reliability critical.
Why should you install MEV in your home?
There are many benefits to having an MEV system installed within your home. Firstly, you will be helping to create a healthier living environment for you and your family, with the system taking care of all of the moisture-laden air and the harmful particles within it.
One of the main benefits of an MEV system is the elimination of condensation dampness, providing better indoor air quality within the home. Alongside this, the MEV system will also extract musty odours to ensure a healthier living environment.
With low running costs and low energy operation, it makes great sense to install an MEV system within your home. All of the systems are easy to install and require very little maintenance, making it the ideal solution to your ventilation needs.
Is my property suitable for an MEV system?
An MEV system can be retrofitted to existing or new build property as long as you can gain access to install the ductwork to all of the wet areas from one central location
With regulations becoming tighter and including the need for good ventilation within new builds, MEV systems are becoming a popular choice for those who are building a new home.
With all of the benefits that an MEV system has to offer, it provides the ideal solution for ventilation in apartments as there is potentially only one external wall.
